California is a state in the Western United States where the Animorphs lived and where the Yeerk Empire headquartered its invasion of Earth out of. Bordering alongside the Pacific Ocean, its terrain includes beaches, redwood forest, mountains, farmland and desert.

In this timeline, the Yeerk Empire began a secret invasion of Earth in the 1990s,[3] beginning their invasion out of a city in California.[4] Six teenagers who lived in this city, who were collectively known as the Animorphs due to their ability to morph into animals, fought against the Yeerk Empire's invasion, although they were defeated and infested. Following their infestation, the Yeerk Empire switched to open warfare, and many Californians were killed, with skeletal remains left behind in cars and buildings. By the 2000s, the skies above California turned yellow while its trees began to die, with the air quality also decreasing. Malls were also converted into Taxxon hives while highways remained empty, with a high-speed train system installed. Several buildings and skyscrapers were also destroyed to make room for surface-based Yeerk pools to be built.[3]
