Jake morphed as a peregrine falcon

"The peregrine falcon is the fastest animal on Earth. Faster than the cheetah or gazelle. Faster than the fastest dolphin or shark. Faster than any bird. In a dive it can break two hundred miles an hour."
Jake[src]

The peregrine falcon is the fastest animal on Earth. It was acquired by Jake and James, as well as some morph-capable Controllers, to serve as their raptor morphs.

Acquiring

"Jake was flapping his wings a little more than the rest of us. He had adopted a falcon morph."
Rachel[src]

In The Visitor, set in 1997,[note 1] Jake acquired a peregrine falcon to use as a raptor morph.[1] Three years later, in 2000,[note 2] a handful of morph-capable Controllers acquired peregrine falcons.[2] Very shortly after, by The Sacrifice, James had also acquired a peregrine falcon.[3]

"I focused my mind on a bird. It was a peregrine falcon. The DNA of that falcon was part of me. And, thanks to the Andalite morphing technology, I could trade that DNA for my own."
Jake[src]

The peregrine falcon is the raptor morph used by Jake[1] and James.[3] Despite the fact that the peregrine falcon's wings are much smaller than the other raptors, their small wings made them extremely fast during diving.[1] James also used the peregrine falcon as one of his raptor morphs, and was the only other Animorph other than Jake, as well as the only Auxiliary Animorph, to have a peregrine falcon morph.[3] The falcon morph was also used by several morph-capable Yeerks. When Jake was infested by Temrash 114, he used the falcon morph to try and escape, although he was attacked by the Animorphs before he could finish the morph.[4] Near the end of the war, several Controllers used the falcon morph as their raptor morphs.[2] One of these Yeerks tried to trap themselves in falcon morph to escape from the war and the need for Kandrona rays, although he was killed by Rachel.[3]

Notes

  1. This transpires in #2: The Visitor, which is set less than two weeks after #1: The Invasion. The Andalite Chronicles explicitly states that it is set 21 years before Elfangor met the Animorphs and 10 years after the Yeerk exodus, which The Hork-Bajir Chronicles explicitly reveals to be in 1966. This sets The Andalite Chronicles in 1976, meaning that the events of #1, and subsequently #2, are set in 1997.
  2. Books #44-53, plus the pre-time skip section of #54, are set in 2000. This is because it is January 2000 in #44: The Unexpected and in #53: The Answer, Jake says that they had been fighting for three years; the Animorphs met Elfangor in 1997, which therefore puts the end of the war in 2000.
