"I know I'm just your little sister by two years, but you would tell me if something bad was happening to you, right? I mean, I wouldn't tell Mom or anyone. You could trust me."
―Jordan to Rachel[src]

Jordan is Rachel's sister and the middle child of Naomi and Dan.

Biography

Family Life

Jordan was born in 1986[note 1] to Naomi, a lawyer, and Dan, a news reporter, weatherman, investigative journalist, and former professional gymnast.[3] She lived in the suburbs of California[4] with her older sister Rachel, who was born two years prior, and a younger sister named Sara. By the 1990s, her parents divorced, and Jordan lived with her mother and sisters.[1] Following the divorce, Sara and her sisters had father-daughters outings with Dan on every other weekend and spent one weekend per month at his apartment in the city. Due to Jordan and Sara not being a fan of hiking or sporting events, Dan often took just Rachel on some of these outings.[3]

In 1997,[note 2] Jordan sat in the family room of her house with Sara and watched scary shows, with her mother remarking that Jordan would be sleeping with a night-light. Not too long after, Jordan was awakened in the middle of the night when she heard Rachel yelling about maggots before she started screaming. Realizing Rachel was having a nightmare, Jordan rushed to her sister's room and woke her up. She then followed Rachel into the bathroom, where Rachel threw up in the toilet. Worried, Jordan considered waking up their mother, although Rachel told her not to and assured her she was just having a bad dream. While Jordan was relieved that it was just a dream, she was confused that Rachel claimed she could not remember the details of the dream despite it being bad enough to cause her to scream and vomit. Feeling sad, Jordan told Rachel that if something bad was happening, she could talk about it with her and that she wouldn't tell their mother. Jordan was then hugged by Rachel, who replied that she knew Jordan could be trusted but that there was nothing bad going on with her.[1]

On a Sunday evening later that year, Jordan and her sisters were taken by Dan to the circus for one of their father-daughters outings, which Jordan and Sara enjoyed. The next day, Jordan and Sara were upstairs at home when the doorbell rang; as Sara ran down the stairs, Jordan yelled at her that she would break her neck if she did not stop running on the stairs. Jordan gave Rachel a look when Dan appeared at the door with Thai food for dinner, with Dan holding Sara in her arms while greeting only Rachel before cordially asking Naomi how she was. The family gathered around the table for dinner, where Jordan listened as Dan eventually revealed that he accepted a job offer in another state a thousand miles away. Jordan remained silent and watched as Rachel left the dinner table to go to her room, with Dan following her; when Dan came back downstairs, having asked Rachel to move in with him, he left the house. On Wednesday morning, Jordan was in the bathroom getting ready for school while Rachel used their mother's bathroom. Noticing that Rachel had stayed in the shower for a long time, Jordan knocked on the door and asked Rachel if she had fallen. Rachel told her that she was running late and asked Jordan if she would ensure that Sara got on the school bus, and Jordan complied.[3]

Shortly after, on a Saturday afternoon, Jordan was at home when she got a call from Rachel's best friend Cassie. Cassie asked where Rachel was, and Jordan told her that Rachel went to gymnastics camp.[5]

Andalite-Yeerk War

After the Yeerks discovered the Animorphs' identities, the Animorphs had to evacuate their families. Right before Rachel breaks the news of being an Animorphs to her mother, she gets Ax to distract the Sara and Jordan. They call Ax "Pokey-Man" and request to train him while he is in Andalite form.[6]

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 In #2, Jordan states she is two years younger than Rachel, who was born in 1984.
  2. This transpires in #2: The Visitor, which is set less than two weeks after #1: The Invasion. The Andalite Chronicles explicitly states that it is set 21 years before Elfangor met the Animorphs and 10 years after the Yeerk exodus, which The Hork-Bajir Chronicles explicitly reveals to be in 1966. This sets The Andalite Chronicles in 1976, meaning that the events of #1, and subsequently #2, are set in 1997.
