- "I'll set the fuses and the timers. I'm an engineer. Explosives weren't my specialty back before this war but you learn what you have to."
- ―Peter to Captain Olston[src]
Peter is an industrial and software engineer and the father of Marco. Following the apparent death of his wife Eva in a drowning accident, Peter fell into a deep depression, where he quit work and took temporary jobs as a night janitor, forcing him and Marco and move to a bad neighborhood where Marco had to take care of the household while Peter struggled to cope with life. However, on Eva's two year death anniversary, Peter overcame his depression and apologized for his parental habits before returning to work as an engineer, and quickly moved himself and Marco back to a nicer neighborhood. Two years later, Peter met Marco's math teacher, Nora Robbinette, and the pair began dating. Peter later proposed to her, and the two quickly married, with Nora moving into their house.
However, when Peter discovered Zero space, he was targeted by the Yeerk Empire, who wished to infest him. He was then saved by Marco, who revealed his morphing powers to Peter and informed him of the Yeerk threat, the existence of the Animorphs, and that Eva was actually still alive, serving as the host body to Visser One. Peter then relocated to the Hork-Bajir Valley and was joined by Eva shortly after, who had been freed by Marco. Peter played an instrumental role in the final stages of the Andalite-Human-Yeerk War, using his skills to create a new Z-Space communicator device so that the Animorphs could contact the Andalite military fleet while also creating the fuses and timers for the explosives that the Animorphs used to destroy the city's Underground Yeerk Pool Complex.
Biography
Early Life
Peter[3] is a Caucasian man[1] who lived in California[4] and married a Hispanic woman[1] named Eva.[5] In 1984,[note 1] the pair welcomed a son, whom they named Marco. Peter worked as an industrial engineer,[2] which included software programming,[6] and he was considered to be a scientist, working for a man named Jerry. Peter and his family lived in a nice neighborhood with a nice house, and were wealthy enough to have their own boat in their city's marina, with the three of them going out for boat rides. He was often caught making out with Eva by Marco, and spent time with Marco playing video games.[1] In 1995,[7] Peter, who had a smoking habit, managed to quit.[3]
Depression
- "I used to think nothing could ever destroy him. But my mom's death had. He used to be an engineer. A scientist, really. He's incredibly smart. We had a nice house. We had a nice car. I used to live practically next door to Jake. I know all that stuff isn't important. I know having things isn't what life is about. But it was still hard when my dad just stopped going to work. Jerry, his boss, tried to be nice. He gave him a couple of weeks to deal with losing Mom. But a couple of weeks was not enough. My dad's a janitor now. Part-time. He gets jobs with a temporary service. He unpacks boxes at department stores. That kind of thing. But I don't care what kind of job he has. That doesn't matter. What matters is that when I lost my mom, I lost my dad, too."
- ―Marco[src]
In 1995,[note 2] Peter was at home when Eva went out at night during inclement weather to go for a ride in their boat. Marco was suffering from a mild virus that night and was sick in bed.[5] Hours later, Peter and Marco were notified by the United States Coast Guard that the boat had been destroyed and that Eva's body could not be found as she had most likely drowned.[1] Eva's death hit Peter hard, and he fell into a deep depression. His boss, Jerry, gave him a few weeks off, but when that proved to not be enough time, Peter stopped going to work; instead, he stayed up all night staring at a blank television.[1] Due to Peter no longer working at his well-paid job, he and Marco were forced to leave their house and moved to an apartment in the bad side of town,[8] where Peter obtained employment as a night janitor[2] as well as a job unpacking boxes at department stores, along with other jobs he received from a temporary job agency.[1]
Two years later, on a Saturday morning, Peter was staring at the television blankly when someone knocked on their door. Marco then told Peter to put on his bathrobe as they had a guest.[8] Shortly after, on a Saturday night/early Sunday morning, around 3:18 AM, Peter was sitting in front of the television when he heard screams coming from Marco's room. He then went into his son's room and shook Marco awake from his nightmare, and was taken aback when Marco immediately asked if he was Eva. Marco apologized for waking him up, and Peter replied that he hadn't been asleep. As he turned to leave, Peter then asked Marco if he was dreaming about Eva since he said her name, and Marco said that he wasn't; when Peter asked if Marco ever dreamed about her, Marco responded that he did sometimes, but that they weren't nightmares. As Peter looked at a photo of Eva on Marco's nightstand, his face contorted in grief. He then told Marco not to worry about boogeymen before leaving the room and returning to the living room. Two nights later, Peter spent the night crying as the day got closer to Eva's two-year death anniversary.[1]
Return to Normalcy
- "I haven't been a very good father to you. Your mom... Your mom would not be happy about the way I've been these last two years. Anyway. I talked to Jerry the other day. I guess we have to live, huh? I mean, we can't... you know. Your mom wouldn't want us to give up, would she? Anyway, I'm going in Monday to talk to Jerry about getting back to work. You know... see if I still remember how to even turn on a computer."
- ―Peter to Marco[src]
With the two-year anniversary of Eva's death looming, Peter realized that she would not be happy about the way he'd been living and that remarked that he had not been a good father to Marco. Wanting to move on with his life and return providing for his son, Peter reached out to Jerry, his old employer, and asked about getting his old job back. A few days later, on Sunday, Peter and Marco went to Eva's grave, where they cried. Peter shared with Marco his thoughts about him not being a good father and how Eva would not like how he had been for the last two years, and informed him that he had spoken to Jerry and would be returning to work the next day. Peter then wondered if he even remembered how to turn on a computer, to which Marco joked that he never knew about computers, or even computer games. Peter was taken aback by Marco's joke, which brought him out of his depressive demeanor; he then laughed and remarked that he had known and forgotten about computers more than Marco ever knew about computers. Marco brought up how he beat Peter every time they played Doom, and Peter responded that it was because he always let Marco win. Marco challenged him to a game when they returned home, and Peter laughed and hugged Marco in response. The two then left the graveyard and returned home.[1]
Back to Work
- "No, Ax, he writes software programs for high-tech uses. He was working with astronomers at the observatory. They were designing a program for aiming the radio telescope at the new observatory."
- ―Marco to Ax[src]
Peter's return to work earned him enough income to quickly move himself and Marco out of their apartment in a bad part of town to a better apartment in a better part of town.[9] Peter wrote software programs for high-tech uses, and was tasked with working with astronomers at an observatory to aim their radio telescope. Peter's work allowed him to purchase a house in the same neighborhood they had lived in when Eva was alive, and Peter moved himself and Marco out of the new apartment they had only recently moved into. Shortly after, Peter sprainked his ankle, which caused him to work from home. One day, while Peter was home, he spotted a teenage boy in his living room using his computer. Peter asked if the boy if he was Marco's friend, to which the boy responded with "Yes," and when Peter asked for the boy's name, the boy responded with "No." Confused, Peter asked him if his name was indeed "No," and "No" responded with "yes." After a few back-and-forth questions, Peter called out to Marco that his friend "No" was here, and remarked that he must be getting old since he did not understand what kids were saying. After Marco and No left, Peter checked on his computer and discovered that No had changed the code he had been working on, and that No's changes opened up new branches of both computer science and astronomy. Peter called the astronomers at the observatory and shared his findings before transferring No's updated code to the computers at the observatory. When Marco returned home, Peter informed Marco about what No had done and how No was a genius, and that the astronomers were discussing potential Nobel prizes. Marco quickly told Peter that No was an idiot, and that whatever changes No had done had been accidental.[6] Shortly after, Peter discovered that the changes No had done had disappeared from the system,[10] leaving himself and the astronomers with the original version Peter had created.[6] Shortly after, Peter noticed that Marco was spending less and less time at home and suspected Marco of having joined a gang.[11]
Matcom Involvement
- "Dad, are you thinking about taking on a military project now?"
"There are some very exciting things going on with this Matcom. The thing they want me on isn't military in any way. But... well, they do carry on some very secret work. I guess some of what they do is probably military." - ―Marco and Peter[src]

Dating Nora Robbinette
- "My dad has a girlfriend. And I think it's serious. I'm used to this quiet, low-key, unexpressive guy. But ever since he started dating this woman, he's been Mr. Personality. Smiling for no reason. Singing in the shower. Laughing at all my lame jokes like I was Chris Rock. He's even developed this annoying habit of hugging me for no good reason."

Discovering Z-Space
- "What are you calling your discovery?"
"I don't really know. What can you call something that is nothing at all? What could you call it? Zero, I suppose. Zero-space." - ―Nora Robbinette and Peter[src]

Meeting the Animorphs
When the Yeerks heard about Peter's development of Z-space transmissions, they did their best to infest him. It was because of this event that the Animorphs had to reveal themselves to him. The Chee helped stage both Marco and Peter's deaths, and they were relocated to the Hork-Bajir valley.[3]
Reunited with Eva
- "A waving hand caught my eye. Down the slope, near a group of Hork-Bajir flashing blades in welcome, was one smiling human. Dad. I didn't say anything. Neither did my mother. She just took off down the slope like a woman who hadn't seen her husband in months and months and months.... It was a movie cliche. It was lovers reunited. It was the dream I'd had ever since I knew my mother was alive. Dad opened his arms and she tumbled into them. They embraced. They held each other for a long, long time. Everything I'd worked for was right before my eyes."
